CHRYSLER SEBRING CABRIO – THE ‘FOUR SEASONS CONVERTIBLE’ – GOES ON SALE IN THE UKThursday 12 July 2001
A stunning new convertible, which carries four passengers in sporty, spacious and elegant surroundings, will be introduced to the UK by Chrysler this summer.
The new Chrysler Sebring Cabrio offers all the fun, freedom and style of an open-topped car but combines this with new levels of convenience, practicality, safety and spaciousness.
Within one of the most stylish and distinctive exterior appearances of any convertible, the Sebring Cabrio provides full seating for four adults, a spacious luggage compartment and a beautifully engineered electrically powered soft top.
The new Sebring Cabrio will be available with a 2.7-litre V6 petrol engine fitted to a four-speed automatic transmission. Just 50 examples will be available this year – in left hand drive only – for £22,995 on the road.
The Sebring Cabrio has already been a huge success in the USA and in mainland Europe, making it the current best-selling convertible in the world. It has been designed as a cabriolet for all four seasons and a key design element lies in the very structure of the car itself.
It was designed from the ground up as a true cabriolet. Since that was the intent from the start of the programme, there are no compromises made in terms of handling, spaciousness, safety, ride quality, design and overall product packaging.
Completing a programme that started less than two years ago with the arrival of the compact Neon saloon, followed by the introduction of the revolutionary new PT Cruiser, and which continued this year with the launch of a new Voyager MPV, Chrysler has now concluded the total renewal of its UK passenger car range.
"The Sebring Cabrio’s unbeatable combination of spaciousness and style gives the Chrysler brand in the UK yet another very desirable choice in an ever-expanding portfolio that is among the freshest in the entire industry," said Simon Elliott, Director of Chrysler and Jeep in the UK.
"Although the Sebring is not produced in right hand drive, we felt that UK motorists should not be denied access to what surely must be the most beautiful and practical four seater convertible on sale anywhere in the world.
"We are delighted to make limited numbers of this car available to our customers and we already know from advance interest that it will be a great success here," he added.
It arrives at a time when sales of Chrysler and Jeep® vehicles in the UK are showing considerable growth. In the first four months of 2001, a total of 6,396 Chrysler and Jeep vehicles were sold, making the UK the largest single export market in the world for the Chrysler Group.
The new Sebring Cabrio is set to continue and build on that dominant sales position. "The reason for the Sebring’s tremendous success overseas is simple. This Cabrio offers all the attributes and qualities of an affordable year-round main car, with an unmistakable design presence that causes the competition to fade into the background," said Simon Elliott.
Like all Chrysler vehicles, the Sebring Cabrio has generous levels of standard equipment. The LX specification includes air conditioning, cruise control, six-way power driver’s seat, power assisted steering, electric windows, remote control central locking, full leather trim, 16-inch alloy wheels, CD player and a 150-watt sound system.
As with all vehicles in the Chrysler Jeep range, the new Sebring is covered by a three-year/60,000 mile warranty, and three years/60,000 mile European roadside assistance.
The Chrysler Sebring Cabrio was designed and engineered by Chrysler’s Large Car Platform Team, and is manufactured at the Sterling Heights (Michigan) Assembly Plant in the USA. The Sebring is named in honour of the famous Sebring racetrack in America, where several Chrysler models including the Viper GTS-R have scored memorable motor sport wins.
