TOP COMES OFF CHRYSLER AT DETROIT MOTOR SHOW

Monday 5 January 2004

TOP COMES OFF CHRYSLER AT DETROIT MOTOR SHOW Chrysler has unveiled its latest new products at the Detroit Motor Show – together with four striking concept cars and the announcement that Dodge will be launching in Europe.

For the UK market, Chrysler took the tops off two vehicles that are due to arrive during 2004 - the new PT Cruiser Convertible and the new Chrysler Crossfire Roadster.

2005 Chrysler Crossfire ROADSTER

The new 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Roadster features a powered Convertible fabric top and full power hard tonneau cover. Under the bonnet is a 3.2-litre 90-degree V-6, 18-valve SOHC engine available with a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission.

The Roadster shares the Coupe’s stunning rear view with a tapered, 'boat tail' appearance that emphasises the sports car’s mammoth rear wheels plus a retractable spoiler that activates when the car reaches 62 miles per hour.

To achieve an even more dynamic appearance, the Roadster features satin silver painted sport bars that appear just behind the driver and passenger seats. Two race-inspired fairings integrated into the top of the tonneau cover complete the dynamic appearance of the sports car.

Pricing, specification and timescales for the arrival of the right hand drive Crossfire Roadster in the UK have yet to be confirmed.

2005 PT Cruiser CONVERTIBLE

With its distinct styling, one-of-a-kind versatility, best-in-Class roominess and unmatched comfort, the new Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible represents a unique offering to the soft-top customer.

"Our engineers wanted to make the PT Cruiser Convertible a Convertible that you can actually do things with," said Larry Lyons, Vice President - Small Vehicle Product Team Engineering. "Nine different seat configurations and a pass-through boot opening with enough room to store two golf bags make the car more versatile than its competitors."

In addition to offering best-in-Class rear leg room and pass-through cargo space, the PT Cruiser Convertible is also one of the quietest convertibles, based on driving experience.

"The combination of the sport bar design and position, together with enhancements to the body structure results in an exceptionally quiet ride," said Lyons. "While on-the-road experience is what ultimately matters, we performed extensive wind tunnel testing to assure our customers a quiet ride, top up or top down."

Pricing, specification and timescales for the arrival of the left hand drive PT Cruiser Convertible in the UK have yet to be confirmed.

Jeep Rescue: Jeep Rescue is designed for the most extreme situations and unforgiving conditions. "The Jeep Rescue is Jeep capability taken to the extreme," said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President, Chrysler Group Design. "It is uniquely equipped for unequalled search and rescue service," continued Creed. Jeep Rescue not only hints at future design direction for a large Jeep but builds on the rugged heritage of Jeep to forge a new dimension for the brand.

Jeep Treo: The Jeep Treo looks forward to its North American debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January, but began turning heads with its appearance at the Tokyo Auto Show.
