MATIZ: BEST BUDGET CAR IN AUTO EXPRESS

Daewoo’s Matiz has today (Wednesday 18 July) been announced as the winner in the Best Budget Car Category of Auto Express’s New Car Honours.

The Korean car manufacturer’s popular city-car was in the running against Renault’s Kangoo and the SEAT Arosa.

Auto Express said: "Powered by a three-cylinder 800cc engine developing 50bhp, the Matiz is at its best in town where its minimal turning circle and narrow frame make every journey a hoot. And thanks to its compact dimensions, parking is much easier. The engine has an entertaining growl that seems to encapsulate the whole character of the car, while the gearbox has a good, swift change and can be used quickly if the mood takes you."

It continues: "However, it isn’t only the way the Matiz performs through town and on the open road that won over our test team this year. Take a look at the broader picture and the case for the Daewoo is even stronger. With comprehensive standard equipment……the Matiz is excellent value for money. And, thanks to Daewoo’s unrivalled servicing deals, which help to keep running costs minimal, residual values are among the strongest in the class. Fun in the budget sector? That’ll be the Daewoo."

Relaunched last November, with numerous revisions and improvements, the Matiz offers the perfect blend of distinctive, appealing looks, with zippy performance from its 50bhp engine and Tardis-like interior, all at a price which makes its rivals look distinctly overpriced. All in all, it’s easy to see why the Matiz is the best selling five-door, five-seater car in the city-car class.

And never one to rest on its laurels, Daewoo has improved the Matiz’s value-for-money further. The new Matiz Xtra special edition costs a barely believable £5995, yet comes with a free CD player, as well as all the other standard Matiz equipment, such as twin airbags, side impact protection beams, power steering, front seat belt pretensioners and engine immobiliser. The Xtra is available until 30 September.

That aftersales package is the most comprehensive in the motor industry comprising a full warranty, free servicing (including all consumables and labour) and breakdown recovery for 3 years/60,000 miles. All customers are also entitled to an advanced driving programme with the Institute of Advanced Motorists in recognition of the fact that avoiding road accidents in the first place is an infinitely better proposition to having one and surviving it thanks to anti-lock brakes and an airbag.
