Japanese compact car specialist Daihatsu is celebrating double success after very strong sales in May and a highly successful Motor Show.
May sales for the ‘greener’ car company soared to over 70 per cent more than the same month last year. This leaves Daihatsu passenger car sales over 31 per cent up overall year to date.
Key display models at The Sunday Times Motor Show Live, meanwhile, proved so popular that Daihatsu is to order more for sale in the UK in the coming months.
One car in particular, a one-off all-white Copen sports car, proved such a hit that it had been sold off the stand within hours of the show opening.
Now Daihatsu is to import a limited number of the pearlescent white version of the 660 cc turbocharged two-seater, complete with heated red leather seats, to meet the demands of other disappointed would-be buyers.
Starting from £13,495 on the road, Daihatsu’s Copen with its electrically operated hard folding roof is capable of 106 mph.
