IVECO WINS AWARD IN AUSTRALIA

Iveco has been awarded "Truck of the Show 2001" status at the Brisbane Commercial Vehicles Exhibition in Australia. The award, made by the leading Australian trade magazines, was given to the PowerStar 7700 backward cab truck, the flagship of Iveco Australia.

The PowerStar 7700 is a powerfully attractive vehicle which ensures Iveco now enjoys major status in the heavy truck market segment in Australia where this kind of vehicle boasts a long tradition. Known as "road trains", they can haul up to three trailers for an overall length of more than 50 metres.

Iveco has been active in the Australian market since 1992, through the acquisition of International Trucks of Australia, initially with a heavy-medium range, joined later by vehicles built locally, and more recently by the extensive Daily City Truck range. The highly developed network extends across the country - and includes New Zealand - with two Head Offices, 38 dealerships and 81 workshops.

Franco Fenoglio, Iveco Vice President for Commercial Operations, said: "The award is confirmation that the major effort in economic and organisational terms that Iveco has undertaken in this period has helped us offer a broad range of vehicles of excellent quality which have been warmly welcomed by the trade and by the market."

"The Australian market is particularly difficult in that it is contested not only by all European truck builders but also by North American and Japanese manufacturers. Vehicle registration figures for May nevertheless confirm the competitiveness of our products, which rank second in the heavy truck segment with a market share of 18.3%."
