A CAR IS REBORN – TV VET MARK GIVES BIRTH…TO WORLD ICON

Top television presenter and vet, Mark Evans launches his third series on the Discovery Channel next month – A Car is Re-Born.

Well known as an animal expert fronting shows like Barking Mad and Pet Rescue, Mark is also a passionate master of all things mechanical.

A Car is Re-Born, which starts on Tuesday 13 November, shows the blood, sweat, tears and jubilation in re-building a 36 year old E-type Jaguar sports car – a style icon of the 60s – but still much revered by young and old worldwide.

Adds Mark: "It's been a labour of love for me and the team. Out of the hundreds of hours of telly I have made over the last decade, this series has been the most fun to make, particularly with a marque which meant so much to me as I was growing up."

The last two series, which have both been successful worldwide, focused on Mark and his team of experts building a replica AC Cobra car and a kit aeroplane, and has motivated viewers far and wide to take to their garages and sheds to replicate Mark's exploits.

"We've had some incredible letters and e-mails from viewers telling us their plans and what they're building. It's amazing how people have drawn inspiration from the programmes and now, by restoring this E-type, we hope to inspire a whole new generation of car enthusiasts," says Mark.

The series, follows every step, from Mark finding the car covered in straw in a farmyard right through the strip-down, refurbishment and rebuilding of the car – before he finally puts the car through its paces on the test rack with retired Jaguar engineer, Norman Dewis.

Norman was tasked forty years ago by Sir William Lyons founder of Jaguar Cars, to drive the newly produced E-type to Geneva where it was launched to the world's press.

Mark added: "Norman's expertise as both an engineer and a driver helped to put the icing on the cake in the final episode of the series and that, coupled with bringing the car home to Coventry for the Sir William Lyons Centenary Rally was a great culmination of all our efforts."

For all fans of the programmes as well as sports car lovers everywhere, Mark will be exhibiting the E-type as well as the replica AC Cobra from the first series, at The Classic Car Show at the National Exhibition Centre on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 November 2001.

A Car is Re-Born is produced by i2i Television, a production company based in Malvern, Worcestershire. The series premieres on Discovery Home & Leisure on Tuesday 13 November at 2100hrs with repeats on The Discovery Channel (see Satellite listings for further information).
