NEW JAGUAR XJ SCOOPS LUXURY CAR CATEGORY WIN AT SCOTTISH CAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS

NEW JAGUAR XJ SCOOPS LUXURY CAR CATEGORY WIN AT SCOTTISH CAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Browns Lane, Coventry, 24 October 2003 – The new Jaguar XJ has just won the Luxury Car category at the Scottish Car of the Year Awards 2003, held at the St Andrews Bay Hotel, Edinburgh.

"We are delighted with this accolade, and that the new all-aluminium XJ is receiving such recognition only six months after it went on sale," said Stuart Dyble, Jaguar’s Director of Communications & Public Affairs, at the ceremony last night. "This award is the latest example of the terrific response the new XJ has enjoyed from the media, our dealers and, most significantly, from our customers who have made the car such a sales success around the world."

Jaguar has a successful roll of honour at the Scottish Car of the Year awards, with the X-TYPE winning the overall prize in 2001, following the triumph of the S-TYPE in 1999.

Graeme Giles, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, commented: "My members were hugely impressed by the new Jaguar XJ, particularly by its use of advanced materials and manufacturing techniques. As a result, the car delivers outstanding performance – regardless of which engine option is chosen – combined with exceptional handling. Yet it retains those essential hallmarks, such as interior quality and value for money, which make any Jaguar special."

Editor’s note: The new XJ dominated its sector in September with sales of 830 units in the UK – equivalent to the combined sales of its nearest competitors, the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes S-Class.

The new XJ will be on show alongside the new X-TYPE diesel, S-TYPE and XK coupe at the forthcoming Scottish Motorshow at the Glasgow SECC from 7 to 16 November.
