GORGEOUS NEW MASERATI SPYDER DRAWS ADMIRING LOOKS AT GOODWOOD

Thursday 20 September 2001

GORGEOUS NEW MASERATI SPYDER DRAWS ADMIRING LOOKS AT GOODWOOD A select group of high-profile potential customers and existing Maserati owners were treated to an exclusive preview of the stunning new Maserati Spyder at Goodwood House in Sussex last weekend.

Just 150 specially invited guests were present to witness the first showing in this country of the new Maserati, a car which heralds a new, exciting chapter in the history of the legendary Italian marque. The eye-catching Maserati Spyder was unveiled during a special lunchtime event at the home of the Earl of March during the Goodwood Revival Festival.

It was the first time that the car had been seen by anyone other than journalists. In fact, the world debut only took place last week at the Frankfurt Motor Show when Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher and President of Ferrari and Maserati, Luca di Montezemolo, revealed the Maserati Spyder to an expectant media audience.

Philip Mills, General Manager of Maserati in the UK, introduced the two Maserati Spyders, which were displayed on the lawn in front of Goodwood House.

Also present among the guests were Mr Matteo Panini, owner of the famous Maserati Museum in Modena, Italy, which houses one of the largest collections of Maseratis in the world. He was accompanied by his wife, Alessandra Cagliari, daughter of the Italian coffee magnate Alberto Cagliari.

Guests who enjoyed lunch in Goodwood House were also able to see a magnificent display of motoring art, a sample of the paintings to be displayed at the Maserati Art Exhibition that will tour the country starting in mid-October. The art exhibition will be launched with the judging of a motoring art competition. Judges include Sir Stirling Moss, Rowan Atkinson, Roy Salvadori, and the winner will be announced on 16 October.

"The reaction of our guests at Goodwood to the new Spyder was incredible, with 20 customers confirming specifications of their order on the day," said Philip Mills. "We’re confident that the rejuvenation of Maserati will continue and accelerate when the first examples of this amazing new car arrive in our dealer showrooms.

"We anticipate that there will be a significant waiting list for this car throughout its life," he added. "The first year production of right hand drive cars is already pre-sold and the first UK customers will receive their cars in December, this year."

The all-new two seater convertible sets new standards by offering four distinct advantages over its competitors, an all-new 390 bhp V8 engine, a transaxle layout of engine and gearbox, the Maserati Cambiocorsa gearbox and the world-first skyhook active suspension system.

"At Maserati, we are privileged to have owners and potential customers who are true car enthusiasts. We chose this special event at Goodwood to thank those people for their enthusiasm and support by giving them the earliest possible viewing of this exciting new sports car," said Philip Mills.
