Fleets can slash operating costs by thousands of pounds on premium and senior management cars by choosing the eagerly-awaited and radically-styled and engineered Mazda RX-8 ahead of its rivals, according to residual value and wholelife cost calculations.
Mazda’s price and specification positioning of the Mazda RX-8 means that residual value experts at Glass’s Guide and cost per mile calculations from Emmox put the all-new four-seater, four-door sports car top of the class against its competitors.
On sale from November with over 1,000 pre-sold, the Mazda RX-8 is being positioned against performance derivatives of saloons and coupes from major manufacturers and this gives it an edge among other sports cars in the crucial company car operating costs stakes.
As a result the £20,000 192ps Mazda RX-8 and the £22,000 231ps derivative are the cost-efficient choice for fleet decision-makers when compared with rivals from manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Honda, Subaru, Toyota and Vauxhall.
Both models, say residual value experts at Glass’s Guide, will retain 49% of their value after three years/60,000 miles. That means that the entry-level Mazda RX-8, due to its ultra-competitive list price, will ‘lose’ just £10,174 during its fleet life, which puts the car ahead of a host of rivals which cost both more to buy and more to run.
For example, the £21,215 Vauxhall Vectra 3.2 V6 GSi will ‘lose’ £15,508 over threeyears/60,000 mile and the £21,000 Toyota Celica 1.8 VVTLi T Sport will ‘lose’ £12,112.
Meanwhile, the range-topping Mazda RX-8 will ‘lose’ £11,215 over three years/60,000 miles, which is significantly less than rivals such as the £26,595 BMW 325i Sport, which will ‘lose’ £15,325 of its cost new over the same period, the £27,005 Honda S2000 GT, which will ‘lose’ £12,473 and the £26,000 Subaru Impreza 2.0 WRX STi, which will ‘lose’ a whopping £16,800.
The class-leading combination of low on-the-road prices and excellent residual values mean the two-car RX-8 range each have pence per mile operating cost figures which put them significantly ahead of all serious competition.
Emmox Carcost figures reveal that the 192ps model will cost 34.08p per mile to run over three years/60,000 miles taking into account depreciation, service maintenance and repair costs and fuel. That’s almost 6p a mile less than the equivalent Subaru Impreza, which over three years/60,000 miles would cost a staggering £3,540 more to run. As a result a company choosing to operate a fleet of six Mazda RX-8 192ps models will be able to operate the sixth car ‘free’.
Mazda’s newly appointed fleet and remarketing director David McGonigle said: ‘The Mazda RX-8 will definitely attract buyers from both the premium four-door saloon market as well as from the two-seat car sector. Market experts who have already driven the car tell us that it has loads of ‘wow’ factor that will get heads turning.
‘Excellent wholelife cost figures are crucial to winning fleet approval for a car and the Mazda RX-8 stands out from the opposition. Fleets choosing the Mazda RX-8 will find that over the traditional three-year/60,000 mile operating cycle the Mazda costs less to run than its competitors.’
The tax-busting price positioning of the two-car line-up means that even though CO2 figures put the models in the top 35% company car tax bracket the Mazda RX-8 is the tax-efficient choice for company car drivers enabling them to save hundreds of pounds against key competitors.
Mr McGonigle said: ‘The Mazda RX-8 is both aspirational and desirable from the perspectives of fleet decision-makers and company car drivers. Mazda has taken the fleet market by storm over the last two years and the
