Be Up

Part car, part scooter – Be Up is the trendy new way of getting around, bringing sunshine and fun into motoring for a new generation of urban driver.

The Be Up has evolved from collaboration between French manufacturer, Ligier Automobiles and Italian stylist, Giugiaro Design. The end result encompasses a mixture of individualistic flair with ever so slightly European idiosyncrasies.

A cross between a car and a scooter it will develop a new style of urban motoring in the 21st. Century. It has been created to bring imagination and freedom onto the streets with its young trendy image aimed at fashionable clientele, young urban professionals and teenagers.

The Be Up retails at £5995.00.

The Be Up will be imported and marketed by Reliant Partsworld Limited, the Staffordshire based niche market specialist and parts distributor. The new model will add to the existing range of Ligier microcars, Piaggio light commercial vehicles, Bultaco and Derbi motorbikes that Reliant currently handle throughout the U.K.

Built around a strong aluminium platform with the upper half constructed over a roll bar system, the Be Up features a 505 cc petrol, twin cylinder, four stroke engine coupled to a CVT type automatic transmission driving the front wheels. It can be driven by people holding a full motorcycle licence in the U.K. from the age of 17.

With a power output of 21 bhp ( 15Kw ) at 4200 rpm combined with torque of 38.6 Nm at 2200 rpm, the Be Up can achieve a maximum speed of 60 MPH. An overall vehicle weight of 335 Kg means that fuel consumption is in excess of 70 MPG.

Behind a full width tinted windscreen, the Be Up is immediately identified by the array of exposed tubular sections around the doors, rear three quarters and A post apertures. A full width, twin tube, nose mounted bumper section can be specified for heavy traffic use.

The front cam shell mudguards and exposed chrome front and rear light units along with detachable roof and rear boot housings are further examples of self-expression evident in the design.

All body panels are manufactured in touch, polycarbonate ABS material, available in a range of bright, summertime colours including Jazz Blue, Bronze and Stratos Silver. For complete open motoring, the roof panel and rear lockable boot section can be removed which provide additional space to carry large items.

Interiors feature a weatherproof design with all trim manufactured in polycarbonate ABS, protecting the full instrument cluster containing speedometer, clock and warning lights. A windscreen to the rear reduces draughts while both figure-hugging seats are waterproof and incorporate head restraints and seatbelts. Twin exterior mirrors, ashtray, mobile phone charge point, twin cup/bottle holders and front and rear rubber mats complete the package.

Equipped with automatic transmission with CVT speed control, the BE Up is easy to drive with just three gear stick positions – forward, neutral and reverse utilised with a brake and accelerator pedal.

The rear, 140 litres, luggage compartment swings up allowing larger items to be stowed underneath, although the entire structure can be quickly removed.

The strength of the Be Up comes from the unique space frame modular chassis which is assembled mechanically with high tech cast aluminium parts. This reduces overall vehicle weight yet improves the rigidity and safety of the passenger cell frame. The reinforced seat belt anchorage points are another integral part of the chassis and are fully tested to all European safety requirements.

Braking is by disc all round with 210 mm units at the front. These provide for optimum safety, allowing progressive braking in safe and stable conditions.

Suspension is independent all round with coil spring over telescopic shock absorbers and lower wishbones with anti roll bar at the front. This provides good roadholding
