Jaguar XJS V12

  • 1986 (C Reg)
  • Automatic
  • Petrol 5.3
  • 52000 miles

The development of the XJS began in the late 1960's as the planed replacement for the Jaguar E-Type. First appearing in 1975 (as a 1976 model) Power came from the Jaguar V12 petrol engine. V12 automobiles were unusual at the time; with notable others coming from Italian luxury sports car makers Lamborghini and Ferrari. The specifications of the XJ-S compared well with both Italian cars; it was able to accelerate to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 7.6 seconds (automatic) and had a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h). Jaguar seized promotional opportunities for the XJS with the television series The New Avengers and Return of the Saint. The New Avengers featured Mike Gambit (Gareth Hunt) who drove an XJ-S. Return of the Saint saw Simon Templar (played by Ian Ogilvy) driving an early XJ-S with the number plate "ST 1". Increasingly hard to find in sound condition our car presents very well indeed in Claret with Doeskin and with just five recorded keepers throughout its 29 year life. Perhaps, not unusually, at this age the service record of this car has been misplaced along the way, but the MOT history back to 2007 suggests just 1,600 miles recorded in the past eight years. Becoming most collectable, this car represents a great opportunity for an enthusiast of the XJS to acquire a very sound low mileage example, to keep long term and improve overtime into what could become an exceptional example.
